ORANGE ORACLE
Here we are again! Another fascinating installment of The Aardvarkian.
There is much to contemplate, as I type and Alanis Morrissette wails in
the background. All I ask is that when you compose your articles, to
double space after every full stop. I also suggest that you do
not attempt to write whilst listening to the radio. It destroys your
creativity. I am floundering and unable to construct a single, witty phrase!
I am a hollow shell filled with commercial babble! What to say… I
grovel and beg for everyone’s forgiveness as this issue is beyond late!
I suck!
"Man, I feel like a woman!"
LADY DRUID ORANGE GIRLIE
SENESCHAL’S BIT
Not much has happened this issue. Fighter practice is going well. We have two new imported fighters; welcome Sven and Wystan! We have a few events coming up. Lady Jessica St. Clair (Kate McIver) is autocrating the second day of Twelfth Night as well as Stick Jocks. Lady Nadia Stopka (Kelly Farrow) is autocrating the Arrowsreach Spring Tourney on the 13th November.
The new ‘unofficial’ Baronial policy regarding a 10% tithe on all Feasts will affect our Canton. Arrowsreach fully supports this venture as the Barony needs money.

PAVILION ETIQUETTE
(as espoused by Mistress Aliskye MacKyven Raizel)
Had I heard of Pavilion Etiquette before? Why no! It wasn’t until I received a copy of the latest Griffintayle did I come across this unexplored region of S.C.A propriety. I have to be honest, I was amused by the article, thinking it preposterous and just abit… (ahem) retentive.
However, I fully retract my uncharitable thought and heartily agree with Mistress Raizel in urging people to treat everyone’s pavilion as you would their home.
What bought this change of heart?
Rowany.
This year was the first year we were lucky to have a pavilion provided by a most generous person. It turned out to be fortuitous, as the weather was less than hospitable.
I like to consider myself fair (I have my moments) and feel that I am more than accommodating at times; but I have to admit that I was less than impressed by the behaviour exhibited by some gentles this year.
To reiterate the points Mistress Raizel raised in her article:
* Do not cut through a pavilion on your way to a list field.
* Try not to stand in front of a pavilion in such a way as to obstruct the view of those seated inside.
I would like to paraphrase her in a more direct manner:
- Please ‘ask’ if you may enter
- Please ask before you take a seat
- If you are invited… please do not invite others unless you ask first or are invited to do so
I have to admit, that I was non too impressed when I found our pavilion filled with persons unbeknown to myself and none of my group in sight. I was also chagrined that my seat was being utilised, as well as the stool I bought down. I was relegated to the back of the pavilion and made to feel unwelcome.
By all means, I do not mind if you wish to join us and if you ask. More than likely, you will be welcomed. I just do not enjoy the sensation of being ignored and used. So, somewhat surly, wet and bedraggled I carried all that I had bought with me and retired to our campsite.
I guess my gripe is this, please ask. A little embarrassment is far better than not asking and being rude.
So, I suggest that one and all peruse Mistress Aliskye MacKyven Raizel’s article which can be found in the latest issue of The Griffintayle.
Happy Pavilioning, (when in doubt, make up a word!)
LADY DRUID ORANGE GIRLIE
THE PRICE
The snow falls softly on the field, where you lay
Where up until a week ago you used to shout and play
But that was before the cry went up looking for sword to slay
The horde rides down from the North and you knew what you must do
Was that pride in your heart?
The shield wall was broken and still you did not run.
But stood your grown upon that field, when others turned and fled
You saw the slayers from the North, and you saw the bloodlust in the eyes
Still you stood your ground, and asked no quarter, you knew none would be given
Was their fear in your eyes?
There was a clash of blades as you met the first, and he fell down and lay dying
You said a silent prayer and thanked the gods it was not you as you sank your blade into another
Your arm began to ache with fire, as you lost your shield from a giant's blow
You knew that your timed had come, as you looked to his eyes
Would you finally now have peace?
And the giant said, if you have a god, you better make your peace
The field was slick as you fell the sword went swish right over your head
So you turned and ran, away from war, never to return to become something like a saint
And lived in peace all you're days, once the war had gone
And you finally did have peace.

Myth
Wanteth thou this myth?
of ancients gone?
Women with tender beauty, flowing hair.
Whose presence enhanced nature’s every breath.
Wars that brought forth glory in life and death, grief that spanned years.
Countries torn and wrent, the blood of it’s creatures oozing out every pore, want you more?
There exists no more.
